Meet Kelly Cooney, EdQuity Founder

Kelly-Ann Cooney (she/her) is a dynamic educator who works alongside school districts to ensure every student has access to great teaching. She founded EdQuity because she saw firsthand and in research that strategies that help multilingual learners thrive — like purposeful literacy and language support — lift the bar for all students. Kelly’s work also educators welcome the experiences of students and families and turn those connections into a foundation for learning.

Kelly’s experience ranges from the classroom to the university. In addition to teacher roles, she has served as a district English Learner director, Sheltered English Immersion Endorsement course instructor for the MA DESE RETELL initiative, and adjunct professor at several Boston-area universities. She is also a consultant for the English Learner Success Forum, Understood.org, and iCivics.

Kelly received her undergraduate degree in French and Journalism at the University of Rhode Island, a Masters from the University of Oregon in Romance Languages, and a Masters in Curriculum & Instruction at Boston College.

EdQuity provides services in New England, nationally, and internationally. We are based in Rhode Island on the ancestral lands of the Pokanoket, Wôpanâak, and Narragansett Peoples. We believe understanding our history and geography helps us better serve the families and students who call this region home today.
